Who is Raquel?

Raquel is a 33-year-old woman who works in the tech industry. She has Colorectal Cancer at stage 4 and is terminal. In her spare time, she likes to draw and read books, and enjoy her artistic side. Ever since she started getting cancer symptoms, she has been socializing with people like herself.

By doing so she has not only made good and positive connections with others but has also gained the courage to face her own diagnosis and by telling her story she is giving hope to others and helping them in their fight with cancer and other terminal diseases like it.

How Raquel colon cancer symptoms initially presented

It was back in 2019 when the first symptoms of cancer presented to her. Considering that she has colon cancer, her first symptom presented in the form of her needing to go to the toilet too often. We all need to use the toilet a few times a day, but her frequency was quite a lot.

At first, she dismissed the signs thinking this was because of her diet, so she changed her diet and started eating healthier and opting for food with high fiber count and more protein. For a moment the symptoms did go away, but this was only short-lived.

When Raquel colon cancer symptoms worsened

It was in 2022 when the symptoms really started to get worse, so much so that even the people around her noticed and pointed out how she was going to the bathroom so often. Not only was she getting frequent bowel movements but the symptoms were also presenting themselves in her stool.

Her stool was pin-thin and reddish in color and worst of all there was blood in it, which is a major red flag. But considering that there was no heavy bleeding, she still did not take it too seriously. Another symptom was that she would feel full even when eating very little.

How Raquel got her cancer diagnosis

All of Raquel colon cancer symptoms continued to happen throughout 2022 and 2023 until she got her diagnosis in 2023. But even before she got her cancer diagnosis, she felt that it was because of her diet and she would change it and eat less, yet did not lose any weight.

Her stomach was often bloated, felt hard, and was always round. This she found out was because of ascites which is a very common and serious sign of cancer. The tumors from her cancer were secreting fluids that were filling up her abdomen, resulting in her feeling full all the time and being bloated.

Upon her diagnosis, they drained about a gallon of fluid from her stomach and this instantly alleviated her symptoms. It was however when she was in the ER due to extreme stomach pain that she was tested for cancer among other things.

Raquel’s reaction to her diagnosis and her treatment

Finding out you have cancer can be very distressing yet, Raquel took her diagnosis calmly, and from the very beginning, she was to overcome this hurdle in life and fight cancer and while doing so be an inspiration to others.

When it came to her treatment, involved a mix of surgeries and chemotherapy, with some hospitals stressing one over the other. She also had to change hospitals because of her insurance and ended up focusing on chemotherapy.

She now gets chemotherapy biweekly and it is not a pleasant experience as it makes her sick. However as bad as chemotherapy is, she still didn’t have to go through a lot of surgeries like a full hysterectomy.

Conclusion

To conclude we should take inspiration from Raquel and no matter how bad things get we should not lose hope. But most importantly we should never ignore our health and like Raquel colon cancer symptoms in young adults should be taken very seriously and we should visit a hospital right away.
